Senior photos are are a great way to showcase such a pivotal point in your life. You are in the middle of a transition between your childhood and adult lives, and get to celebrate the milestones you've reached thus far. You have spent between 17 and 18 years growing into the unique person and amazing person you are today, and these photos will give both you and your parents something to look back on in the years to come. Graduating high school is such a monumental time in your life that you will look back on for the rest of your life.
You want your senior photos to capture your personality and hobbies in an image. Choosing locations is a key point in that as well as incorporating your outfit choices. Your photos should represent who you are as an individual.
Locations play a huge role in letting your photos tell your story. You don't want the background to be too busy.
Are you a nature lover? Lakes and parks typically have plenty of area to choose from that have nice natural background and vibes.
Do you love the city life? Many cities have modern or historical districts with areas that make for the perfect backdrops, whether it be city monuments, brick walls, murals or grafitti.
Are there any places that resonate with you? Somewhere you grew up, or
You want your outfit to showcase your personality and fashion styles, but you don't want it to distract from the photos. Try to avoid neutral colors that may match your skintone. Avoid flashy colors, patterns and clothing with images or big logos. We want the photos to capture you, and distracting clothing will take away from that.
Try to avoid bulky jewelry such as necklaces or bracelets.
If you wear glasses, try to borrow or find a cheap pair without lenses to avoid potential glare.
Make sure to dress comfortably but stylishly so you feel confident during your session.
You know your hair best. Avoid new hairstyles for the occasion. You want to have a hairstyle you wear on a regular basis that suits you well. If you're looking to get a new haircut or trim before your session, do it at least a week in advance to allow your hair to calm down a bit and look more natural.
Avoid overdoing your makeup for your photos. Try to avoid sparkly or glittery makeup as it doesn't photograph well and may make your skin look uneven. Avoid crazy glossy coverage and deep or bright pinks and red lipsticks. Lastly, remember to bring powder as you may get sweaty during your shoot and want to touch up some things.
Don't forget to trim your nails or touch up your manicure before your photos. Try to avoid excessive jewelry such as rings or bracelets. Your class ring is an exception.
Do you play any sports?
Consider taking at least one photo of you in your gear, or out on a field where you play.
Do you play any instruments?
Consider taking at least one photo of you with your instrument.
Are you in any clubs?
Consider taking at least one photo of you with your letterman or club affiliated clothing.
Do you have any hobbies?
Consider taking at least one photo of you involved in your hobby.
Don't be afraid to bring a friend who helps you relax for your photos. They are also beneficial to help with your outfit changes and making sure you look your best. Friends can also bring up funny jokes or moments to get you laughing for a great shot.
Communication is key! If you are not happy with a certain setting or pose, speak up. I want you to be 100% satisfied with your photos.
